All About Clutter

As Spring rolls around, many neighbors take the opportunity to declutter from the long(ish) Winter and the additional Holiday junk accumulation. West Towson gardeners also start prepping and planting for the growing season which produces yard waste. We thought that it would be helpful to to consolidate a list of upcoming opportunities to help you stay on top items you no longer need.

  • Dumpster Day: a West Towson decluttering tradition held April 20 from 8-11 at the Bykota Center.
Target clutter: items at the end of their useful life such as bulk trash, scrap material, or other items which aren’t appropriate for curbside trash pick-up. Check out our events page to find out more details, RSVP, and see the list of restricted items.

  • Shredding Day: held on April 27 from 9-12 at Red Oak Financial (403 Allegheny Av). Red Oak welcomes neighborhood residents to their event.
Target clutter: up to two boxes of documents containing sensitive information such tax filings or medical records. The documents can have paper clips or staples, but binder clips and similar bindings should be removed.

  • West Towson Neighborhood Yard Sale: will be held on August 24th throughout the neighborhood.
Target Treasures: items with a useful life and monetary value. Register for the event, set up shop, and let us drive traffic to you.

  • GreenDrop: is open during normal business hours and is located on the southeast corner of Joppa and Bosley intersection.
Target clutter: items with a remaining useful life which can be donated to benefit local charities. Donate items like tools, collectibles, kitchenware, toys, small appliances, electronics, musical instruments and sporting goods to keep them out of the landfill. Visit the GreenDrop site to find out more.

  • Buy Nothing Greater Towson/ North Baltimore: is a Facebook group which aims to keep items out of the landfill by finding a new home for them.
Target clutter: items with a remaining useful life which can shared with area residents. This is a great way to pass on outgrown clothes, give new life to unused sports / hobby equipment, or share recently replaced furniture. Often the items can be left on your porch and the new owner will come pick them up.

  • Yard Waste Pick up: curbside yard waste occurs bi-weekly from April - December. Neighbors can look up their specific schedule on the Baltimore County website.
Target clutter: grass, leaves and small brush in heavy-duty paper lawn and leaf bags or sticks tied into bundles.

Bonus Pro Tip: if you have issues with Baltimore County’s Trash collection such as missed pick ups or sloppy pick ups, you can use the BaltCoGo app or website to report the issue. The general steps include downloading the app, creating an account, clicking the create a request button, then filling out the form.
